My new refrigerator has an automatic ice maker. I need to run a water line to it. The salesperson at the appliance store sold me a kit that clamps onto a regular water pipe. Also, I have heard that hot water freezes faster than cold water. Should I connect the line to a hot water line? What is the best way to protect the floor beneath the refrigerator in case a leak happens? I’ll never forget the first week I had an automatic ice maker. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The slow tightrope walks from the sink to the freezer while balancing flimsy ice cube trays will be a dim memory in just a few days my friend.

I last updated this page: My first edition was: Yes, that is what it originally cost in today’s dollars before the current era of cheaper imported appliances. This luxury ice machine should not be confused with the ordinary ice maker that is part of a refrigerator-freezer; the former magnificent engine makes crystal-clear, flavor-free, ice cubes.
A refrigerator-freezer ice maker produces cloudy ice in a stale-garlic flavor, typically in odd crescent shapes, and stuck together. The ice machine’s product is clear, pure, flavorless ice cubes which are luxuriously wet and loose, like a handful of flawless diamonds scooped from a mountain spring. Owning this machine once in your life will spoil you, like many of my correspondents who say they will never again return to refrigerator ice.
Besides this delicious indulgence, the ice machine also makes an excellent source for controlled cold-plate chilling necessary to the operation of an even greater luxury, the home soda fountain see my page on home carbonation. On this page, however, we are only concerned with the ice and how to keep it coming. When a slab of ice reaches the finished thickness, a thermostat triggers the harvest cycle, which reverses the chiller to warm the evaporator plate, until the ice slab slides onto a cutter grid.
The cutter grid consists of nickel-chromium “Nichrome” is one brand resistance wire which is warmed by a low-voltage electric current. The ice slab rests on the heated wires, and the wires slice through the slab, first in one direction on the top layer of wires, then the perpendicular direction on the lower layer, yielding cubes of ice which drop into an insulated ice supply bin. The original machines were produced in an inch width for a standard Since a inch version is also available.

Aug 20, 0 comments I bought a new refrigerator from Lowes and Expo came out the next day to deliver it. Lowes – Review in Installers category from Whittier, North Carolina Once disconnected water starting spraying all over my kitchen walls and flooding the floor. All the guy did was put his thumb on the connection, my wife had turn the water off for them. So while my wife is on her knees cleaning up water that they refused to clean, one of the men got under the sink where the connection was and somehow, God only know how, disconnected the hose from the connection.
Well again water started pouring into the cabinet. Expo closed the cabinet doors and left it that way and didn’t say anything to my wife about it, had her sign a form stating no leaks were found and then quickly left. My wife later found the cabinet filling with water therefore causing all kinds of issues, water pouring in behind the cabinets and baseboards and such.
We called expo and they sent the guy back out who then hooked it back up and then accused her of having a bad faucet, which had nothing to do with the hose. Do these people think we are idiots or something. We then told him to get out of our house. We called the local store, the manager told us to deal with Expo and wouldn’t help us.
Using bottled water for ice maker
They’re rather cheap – 20 to 30 dollars. For a distance such as yours, it’s best to run the flex line from behind the fridge, down through a small drilled hole in the floor next to the wall, and under the floor. And along the basement ceiling, securing it to the floor joists in the basement ceiling, or drilling holes in the joists – as with running electrical wire. If the joists are laid in the same direction the hose needs to go, then it is simply secured in place with plastic loops against the side of one joist.
When the hose reaches the area in the basement, just under the sink, a cold water pipe probably half inch will be easily accessible.
A bar sink may require a fourth compartment or “quick” funnel drain for the disposal of ice waste. Each drain-board is to be at least as big as the largest sink compartment.
However, there is nothing automatic about getting a water line hooked up to the ice maker. If you are lucky, there will be a hookup in your kitchen wall near the refrigerator. If not, you will need to run a line to the nearest cold water pipe, which is probably in the floor below your kitchen. An hour project of drilling and running flexible hose is well worth the pleasure of ice on demand.
Tapping the Cold Water Line 1 Shut off the main water supply to your home. The folks at GE Appliances recommend using a vertical pipe, if available. If you must use a horizontal pipe, place the hole for the valve either on the top or side of the pipe.
How to Connect Osmosis Water Filter to Refrigerator Water Dispenser
Toilets hook up to the sewer via a toilet flange, or a metal or PVC pipe screwed to the floor of your bathroom. Your toilet screws into the flange, which connects your toilet to the sewer pipe, which in turn flows into your home’s main sewer line. Hooking up your toilet to the flange involves a few nuts and bolts, along with a wax ring to help secure the toilet, but the job requires only minimal plumbing skills and should take no more than one afternoon of your time. Clean the sewer drain opening by scraping the caulk around the opening with a putty knife.
A final thought: you will probably not replace a sink/faucet too many times, but you will use the sink and faucet every single day at least once. You want the job to be done very well, up .
Replacing ice maker line Originally Posted by Piperflyer Can you explain more on just how you did it. I need to do mine on my BH? Thanks I bought a 25′ braided line and started at the connection at sink. I used a connector I bought at Lowe’s to hook the new and old lines together. The only problem I had was getting it started under the sink. The line goes down into the underbelly and I couldn’t get it to go more that a few inches where the connection would get hung up.
After searching with my fingers, I used a camera and found the old line was ran between the pex going to sink and a power line that had the black plastic wrap around it. This was causing the connection to hang. I was able to use my fingers and pull the wrapped line away and then push the new line through. After I did this, I was able to pull the line through from the frame.
Help – Dishwasher + Ice Maker Drain hookup
A refrigerator water valve is an important component of most refrigerators that have an icemaker, water dispenser, or both. Since most refrigerators now have an automatic ice maker or a water dispenser, it is important to know where to locate the refrigerator water valve in order to properly shut it off during needed repairs. Without the refrigerator water valve, it will be harder to make repairs if there are leaks or damages in the icemaker and the water dispenser.
Since it is not always advisable or practical to shut off the entire household water system, it is important to have this water inlet valve installed in order to control the flow of water to the fridge. Here is how to shut off the refrigerator water valve while you’re doing refrigerator maintenance.
Finish up by inserting the metal legs into the sink’s corner slots. With the sink ready, start running the waterlines. Solder lengths of 1/2-in. copper pipe into brass drop-eared elbows (Photo 4).
My husband hates refilling our Keurig. He comments about it often. You see, I have a habit of grabbing my cup, filling it with water, pouring it into the water reservoir and then putting in my k-cup and brewing my coffee. When I go for my 2nd morning cup I again just pour a cup of water before I brew one. It’s never an issue to me. He, on the other hand, when he is ‘off’ or home that morning and drinking more than 1 cup-to-go out the door on the way to work will walk to the Keurig and brew the coffee and walk away.
Doesn’t refill it until it’s down low and either has to remove the reservoir and take it to the sink to fill it, or make trips with his little mug s of water from the sink to the counter with the machine. In my mind, no wonder he thinks it’s a big deal. If he just poured one in before removing one, the water stays full. If you are a small business owner who provides coffee to your staff or customers, or someone who has this in their office and is sick and tired of refilling it, or your co-workers never refill it, etc.
